Can Stress Really Cause Hair Loss?

Well, the short answer to the title of this article is yes it can and I know because I have experienced this condition first hand. Many different aspects of our lives can bring on stress; it could be bereavement, money worries or a divorce for instance. In my particular case it was work related.

Back in the early 90's I was employed as a purchaser, the only purchaser in fact, for a small shop-fitting company. The job was okay although the pay was poor. I was happily plodding along until the firm started to take on way more work than they could handle.

I was under quite a bit of pressure making sure that the various fittings and fixtures were delivered to schedule and solving supply problems but I seemed to be coping fine even though the work was just mounting and mounting. This went on for a couple of months until one day the powers that be decided to take all the men off a small local job to meet a deadline at a refit that was worth much more money. They did this without informing me.

The next morning I received a call from the local shop owner who was in a real state. He had arrived at his property to find that he had a small fortune's worth of counters etc standing outside his shop getting ruined in the pouring rain. There was not a sole on site to cover them, move them inside or fit them. This was bad enough on it's own but it bothered me more because I knew the guy personally.

Shortly after this I began to notice a steady build up of hair in the sink each morning after combing it. My wife had noticed that I'd been a bit edgy for a while so I made an appointment at the doctor's. The doctor confirmed that the hair loss was almost certainly stress related. After getting nowhere at work in regard to getting some help (and a raise) with a now impossible workload, I decided to solve the problem myself. I quit the job and kept my hair.

Dihydrotestostrone and Its Role in Hair Loss

Thinning hair is a condition that affects many people all around the globe. It isn't a pleasant experience when you first come to notice it and there is one main culprit involved in its development.

Dihydrotestostrone, or DHT for short, is a by-product of the hormone testosterone and various studies have shown that it plays a major part in hair loss by shortening the growth phase and slowing down follicle growth. Correct nutrition is vitally important in all aspects of life and naturally, the health of your hair is no exception.

DHT tends to block important vitamins and minerals from reaching the follicles such as Zinc, Magnesium and Vitamin B6 as well as proteins needed for well-nourished hair. Without this sustenance the follicles will get progressively smaller and smaller and eventually hair loss will inevitably occur. In addition to this it also causes a waxy substance to build up around the roots that also causes problems.

The levels of production will of course differ from person to person. We are all genetically programmed to produce varying amounts of this by-product. It also follows that if members of your immediate family are prone to losing their hair then you will be at greater risk too.

Fortunately there are things that you can do about this if hair loss is causing you significant problems with your self-image or self-esteem. Today, there are remedies that are designed to stop hair loss by blocking the DHT hormone. There are also a variety of surgical alternatives that you could consider although there is always an element of risk to aware of.

Vitamin B-12 Benefits For Fast Hair Growth

Modern lifestyles coupled with the detrimental effects of environmental pollution, takes its toll on our health, making it difficult to keep the hair on our heads healthy. Often, the cause of the problem lies in our diet. Most of the people who suffer from hair loss or poor hair growth have a deficiency of certain vitamins in their diet that leads to them having problems with their hair.

Vitamin B-12 is an essential part of our diets, and it is responsible for, among other things, healthy development of red blood cells as well as the protective layer that covers our nerves. A deficiency of vitamin B-12 in the diet may also lead to hair loss.

Hair Vitamins Containing Vitamin B-12

If you find that you are experiencing less than healthy hair growth due to a lack of vitamin B-12 in your diet, then there is a simple and easy way to put the necessary amount of vitamins back in your diet. This is through the consumption of hair vitamins that contain vitamin B-12. The most common form of hair vitamin can be found over-the-counter in the form of supplement tablets.

When you choose to purchase hair vitamins that contain vitamin B-12, however, you must ensure that you follow the instructions as stated on the label of the bottle. You must be careful not to overdose on the vitamins, as this will cause harm to your body. Some people believe that since the recommended dosage will lead to their hair eventually becoming healthier, taking more of the vitamins would lead to this happening faster. This is not the case, however, and you may cause lasting harm to your body if you choose to take more vitamin tablets than the amount recommended on the bottle.

Proper Treatment

The best course for you to take would be to find hair vitamin supplements that not only contain vitamin B-12, but also the other B-group vitamins. Zinc, magnesium and certain amino acids have also been found to be best used in conjunction with B-group vitamins. Using a hair growth vitamin that contains all of these separate compounds is the best way for you to promote healthy hair.
